IRCC has announced that additional 30,000 applicants to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will be invited to apply, starting September 23, 2021. Invitations will be sent over the course of two weeks to potential sponsors who have already submitted their application in 2020. They will be selected randomly as previous years. New applications are not open yet.
Applications need to be submitted online through the new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, within 60 days from the day the invitation to apply is received.
IRCC will assess potential sponsors’ income for tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, for 2020, the income requirement will continue to be the minimum necessary income only. Employment Insurance benefits and temporary COVID-19 benefits can be considered as part of the sponsor’s income.
